We are now accepting submissions for this year’s Juried Art Show, "Shifting Environs". The exhibition will run from March 23 to April 30, 2020, and is open to artists working in any medium. The jury will be making decisions as to what is selected for the show based on artistic merit, technical skill, and relevance to the theme. This opportunity is free to participate for Arts Etobicoke members. The deadline for submissions is Saturday, February 29.
In addition to the exhibition in The Storefront Gallery at Arts Etobicoke, this year we are introducing an exciting interactive digital exhibition. In the spirit of inclusivity, every submission we receive will be included as part of an online exhibition that invites viewers to curate their own show. Audiences will have the opportunity to see all of the submissions in the online gallery and select from among the artworks to create a customized digital exhibition and tell their own story. For more information and to make a submission, visit our submissions page at http://ow.ly/1JZu50y6XQl
Opening tonight at the Storefront Gallery, Arts Etobicoke is proud to present “Becoming More”, the very first solo exhibition by emerging artist Grace Qian.
@gracieee_qian is the winner of last year's Juried Art Show and is currently studying at @esa_contemporary_art. She was born and raised in Hangzhou, China, and moved to Canada in 2014. Through portraiture, Qian aims to explore individual experiences of isolation, vulnerability, and their interaction with each other. Her paintings question the idea of the self and how it plays into the world.

Each week we will be sharing vendor profiles for our local artisans. This week’s featured vendor is @sweetandshycakes. “I discovered baking a lot later in life. I wish I could tell you about all the little stories as a little kid where I baked cookies and cupcakes for bake sales for my neighbourhood! I wish I could tell you I had a secret family recipe that was passed onto me by my grammy! I don’t. We didn’t really have a working oven in our home till the age of 17…and when I discovered what this magical oven could do, my world changed! COMPLETELY.
What started as hobby baking after devouring all the treats my sister-in-law used to make, I started to learn and discover more. I fell in love more. Every day. Every month, Every year. When you reach out to Sweet & Shy, I do a little dance – because it means I get to make one more cake, and I get to hear about one more story. My baking world is filled with stories of you, your loved ones and it absolutely is the one thing that continues to fulfill me. This is my world of baking and I invite you to come on board.”
