Introduction to Mural Art is a free visual art learning program for ages 18+ and all abilities. Through a series of 5 online workshops and one in-person workshop on aerosol paint, the participants learn the process of mural-making, including the fundamentals of art, design, and mural-making skills from Moises Frank (Luvs), in collaboration with Mural Routes. This series is a progressive workshop covering the conceptual and technical aspects that go into mural-making. The Participants will be equipped with a perspective on art which translates to all art forms and mechanisms to aid creative problem-solving. As well as, participate in the Community Collaborations mural along Finch Ave W., as part of The Finch Avenue Mural Corridor project.
The program consists of 5 online Google Classroom meet-ups from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesdays with 1 hour of homework, for a total of three hours per session. Plus the final in-person class for the aerosol demonstration 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm, for a total of three hours for the final session. Workshop topics include composition, colour theory, harmony, flow and storytelling, drawing and painting techniques, mural techniques, and an aerosol demonstration. The aim of this program is to offer each participant a foundation in mural-making techniques and process in order to support their participation in painting the Finch Avenue Mural Corridor.
Moises Frank, also known as Luvs, is a Toronto based artist-human, educator and young creative. As a millennial in hip-hop he finds himself as a bridge between classical graffiti writing and ‘graffuturist’ mural styles. From a young age he has studied graffiti and muralism in back alleys, abandoned buildings, on trains and in books. His discipline in the art has been developing over the past 8 years professionally and has successfully collaborated, designed and executed murals/artworks at both public and corporate levels. Places such as Union Station, TD Bank, NBA, Cadillac Fairview, Facebook Canada head office, Youtube studio in Eaton Centre and is part of CIBC’s private collection. He has also had the privilege of travelling to paint murals and teach art abroad. Places including New York, California, Florida, Baltimore, Alberta, Ottawa, Montreal, Windsor and across the GTA and even different cities across Colombia. With a focus on social justice and community art, Luvs aspires to continue to grow in community, as an artist and human.
