Arts Etobicoke in partnership with Delta Family Resource Centre is thrilled to present Arts in Wincott Park – a FREE series of arts activities and workshops for the residents of Kingsview Village – Westway community. 

The program will offer two sessions of an hour and a half each from 3:30 pm -6:30 pm every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The sessions will be conducted in safe and small groups at Wincott Park. All Health & Safety protocols will be in place. Each session will have a maximum of 7 participants and priority will be given to residents of KVW neighbourhood.

In the event of cancellation of the one or more sessions due to severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances, the event will be rescheduled for the subsequent Monday or Tuesday.

 

Embroidery Hoop Silkscreen with Maureen Da Silva 

In this class, we will explore a completely different form of printmaking, and discover the fun of silkscreen! Participants will be introduced to an affordable and budget-friendly way to bring silkscreen processes into their home studios, and learn a specific way to create dynamic stencils to print, using embroidery hoops and easy to find materials!

We have two back to back sessions of the same workshop in order to accommodate more participants. However, each workshop will only have 7 participants so please register below to book your spot.

Phulkari Embroidery with Rafia Shafiq 

In this session you will learn the basic phulkari stitch that is the straight line, also called “feeta”. The participants will create a design using this technique on the fabric. This workshop is for ages 12 and up.

Phulkari Embroidery with Rafia Shafiq: Session 2

In this session you will learn another popular motif you have seen in Phulkari shawls and scarves. The embroidery motif is similar to chevron design. The participants will create a design using this technique on the fabric. This workshop is for ages 18 and up.

Cyanotype Printing with Marjan Verstappen 

Make photos with a sheet of paper. No camera needed! Sometimes called blueprints or sunprints, cyanotypes have many names, and many uses. Often overlooked as an art form, they’re an easy, non toxic way to make a range of artworks, no drawing or painting skills required!

Henna Motif Workshop with Ayan Bashir 

The term Henna is an Arabic word for the process of applying a paste made from the ground leaves of a woody shrub that thrives in hot, dry climates ; Africa, Southwestern Asia & the Middle East. Henna is a build up of beautiful motifs to create a design. In this workshop we will explore different henna styles and create your own design to decorate your space at home.
