Monday, March 28 – Friday, June 17, 2011
Reception, Thursday, May 5, 2011, 6-8pm

Part of the 15th annual CONTACT Photography Festival.

Arts Etobicoke and the media arts program at the Rexdale ProTech Media Centre are pleased to present Concealed Beauty: Photography, Video Art and Digital Graffiti by Rexdale Youth,
a show featuring original and enticing art by youth in the Rexdale community. Part of the 15th annual Toronto-wide CONTACT Photography Festival, this exhibition uncovers the beauty that exists in our own neighbourhoods.

'Concealed Beauty' is also part of the Celebrate 27 Arts Fest (C27), a series of events across Toronto from April 1 to April 27, 2011 which communicate and celebrate Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits." An initiative of the Culture Division of the City of Toronto, C27 promotes Toronto's vibrant cultural and community arts landscape in neighbourhoods across the city and raises awareness of the diverse programs and services offered by local artists, local arts organizations and the City.

Experience photography, video art and digital graffiti like never before. Come out, witness the show, debunk the myths.

About the Rexdale Pro Tech Media Centre

The Rexdale Pro Tech Media Centre provides neighbourhood youth with free access to state-of-the-art technology including digital arts (graphic design, flash animation, web design, digital photography and video production) and Microsoft curricula to introduce youth to potential careers in new media while providing computer literacy skills and creating opportunities for self-expression.

Since opening in July 2007, the Rexdale Pro Tech Media Centre has managed thousands of repeat visits from local youth. Rather than hanging out in the streets, many youth in Rexdale are hanging around the Media Centre. Workshops expose members to the basic skills required to get into Media Arts.

Community MicroSkills Development Centre is the operator of the Media Centre and, together with, the City of Toronto, Microsoft Canada, Humber College, Renew Computers, and community groups have developed a safe, nurturing and structured environment where youth have access to a range of new media technologies.
