Arts Etobicoke’s Juried Art Show

The Storefront Gallery at Arts Etobicoke is seeking submissions for its Spring Juried Show, entitled The *White* exhibition. Open to intepretation, "white" straddles a vast array of ideas through concept, symbolism, theory and theme. What comes to mind when you think of "white"?  The competition is open to artists working in any genre living or working in Etobicoke.

The winner of the Juried Art Show receives a solo show at the galley and a $500 cash award. Two additional merit awards will be handed out of $200 each. 

This years jurors are:

Aitak Sorahitalab -
 Aitak Sorahitalab is a visual artist, art educator and activist. She is the co-founder of Airsa non-profit organization supporting new Canadians in the arts through training, events, and art initiatives in Toronto. She has had several exhibitions in Iran and Canada and has worked internationally as an artist and art educator. Sorahitalab holds a Master of Design and Production from the University of Art of Tehran.

Judy Smith -
Judy opened the doors of Westmount Gallery in Central Etobicoke 43 years ago and ever since enjoyed the art, the artists and the clients who, over the years, helped her support the growing community in Etobicoke, Toronto, and beyond.  Judy is a celebrated figure in the Etobicoke art scene.  

Mr. Hydde
- Mr. Hydde is a painter living and working in Etobicoke. He matriculated through a traditional art education, including a B.F.A. and an M.F.A. conferred from two prestigious Canadian Universities before the loving call of Low Brow, and Street Art ruined him forever.

Artists are permitted to submit up to three works. Application must be members of Arts Etobicoke to apply. Annual membership includes access to the Call for Proposals for the Fall and Spring Juried Art Show and access to free art classes, workshops and lectures.  Please visit our membership page to become a member. 

Deadline for submissions is February 22, 2019, 4pm

The exhibition will run from April 1 - 26, 2019, with an opening reception on Wednesday, April 10.

How to Apply

Please fill out an application at the link listed below. 

Applicants must be Members of Arts Etobicoke. Annual membership is $45. Please visit our membership page here.  

All applications must be received no later than February 22 at 4pm and include an image of the work submitted. Each artist may submit up to three pieces for consideration. Images can be no larger than 600px wide. Application requires final dimensions, medium and price.

Works selected for the exhibition must be dropped off at the gallery in person between March 25th - 26th. Works that are delivered late to the venue for hanging may not be included in the exhibit.

Opening Reception: April 10, 2019, 6pm - 8pm

Terms for All Artwork
Only original work (no copies or reproductions) may be submitted.

All works accepted to the show must be ready for display by being dry to the touch and ready to be hung, mounted, or installed. The Gallery reserves the right to reject unacceptably framed or presented work.

If an artwork is technology or new media based, all equipment must be provided to the gallery at the expense of the artist and with clear instructions.

At the close of the exhibition, unsold work must be picked up, or have arrangements made for pick-up, by Saturday, April 27th - Wednesday, May 1st, 2019. Storage is not available at the gallery.

No entry may be withdrawn once it has been accepted and selected work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the show.

Works are not required to be for sale however, if works are for sale, The Gallery will receive a 30% commission on any sales.

All entries will be juried and the decision of the jurors is final.
